Nicole van Dijk is a Melbourne-based painter whose work explores the relationship between landscape, memory and constructed image.

Living in a densely urban part of Melbourne, I paint small pockets of bushland that persist within the built environment. These landscapes provide a starting point, but the paintings gradually move away from direct observation.

My paintings are not simply about landscape. They are also about how each of us constructs images of the world, selecting, editing and shaping what we see and present.

I also work as an Educator, working with pre-service teachers. Both teaching and painting involve a similar process: building something gradually over time, creating structure, connection and continuity.
